It is considered highly probable that both Martha and her son-in-law, Robert Farnsworth, were somehow descended of Thomas Farnsworth of Bordentown, NJ. John Kirkbride and his wife, Martha Fernsworth, had issue [including]:
* 1. Mary, b. 20 Oct 1770 in VA; m. ROBERT FARNSWORTH.
Note: The earliest Kirkbrides and the Farnsworths of Bordentown were certainly acquainted. On 3 Mar 1755, Henry Farnsworth purchased of John Beaumont of Bucks Co., PA, 36 3/4 acres of a 540 acre parcel of land in West New Jersey, which John Beaumont had himself purchased of the Executors of Joseph Kirkbride's estate. Joseph Kirkbride's will, dated 21 May 1748, named Sarah Kirkbride, Nicholas Austin and Mahlon Kirkbride as executors, recorded in Book B, folio 108, Bucks Co., PA. (Henry Farnsworth paid œ6 for the 36+ acres.) Martha 'Fernsworth' would have been of the right age to be a granddaughter of Henry Farnsworth, as one possibility. --Farnsworth Memorial II Second Edition, p.780
