The Department of the Interior Pension Circular in question number four asks the applicant if they were previously married and the date of death of their previous spouse. Jacob Ricketts answers, "Yes, to Nancy Scott who died in 1850." Perhaps Jacob meant 1860, not 1850. A pension statement by Margaret Ballah filed on behalf of Melissa J. Barnett(Barnard) indicates Nancy Scott died in 1858. Another marriage record for a Nancy Scott was found in the Vermillion County, Indiana, records which indicates perhaps that Nancy Scott divorced or left Jacob Ricketts by that time.
