Ethel Belle Fox was born one mile northeast of Gessie on the Daniel Alexander Fox farm in Highland Township, Vermillion County, Indiana, on October 6, 1892.(
1) She was the daughter of Daniel Alexander Fox and Elizabeth Jane Ricketts.(2)

On February 3, 1917, Ethel Belle Fox married
Robert William Gouty.(3) He was the son of Joseph P. Gouty and Luella Marie Hartman.(4) Robert was born August 26, 1889, in Gessie, Vermilion County, Indiana.(5)

Robert and Ethel Gouty lived on a 40-acre farm in Mound Township, Warren County, Indiana, that Robert received from his father, Joseph P. Gouty. Robert and Ethel were the parents of one child.
Mavis Lorene Gouty was born one mile northeast of Gessie on the Daniel Alexander Fox farm in Highland Township, Vermillion County, Indiana, on a Thursday, April 11, 1918, at 10 AM.(6)

Mavis Lorene Gouty graduated from Covington (Indiana) High School about 1936. She married
Truxton James Older on September 1, 1938, in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois.(7) Truxton was the son of Roy Burton Older and Ethel Leona (Worth) Older.(8)

Robert William Gouty
died on June 4, 1949, at age 59 from spinal meningitis at Lake View Hospital in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois.(9) Upon the death of Robert, Ethel and Mavis each received one-half of the 40-acre farm in Mound Township, Warren County, Indiana, where Mavis grew up.(10) Lawrence Vickery, a farmer who lived nearby, farmed the 40-acre tract on a 50-50 basis after Robert's death.

Ethel Gouty moved to Danville, Illinois, in the early to mid 1950s and lived on Walnut Street, only a few houses down from Roy and Ethel Older, Truxton's parents. A short time later, she moved across town to be closer to her daughter. Ethel lived in an upstairs apartment on Edwards Street, about one block from her daughter's house at 13 South Griffin Street in Danville, Illinois, from the late 1950s until the early 1960s.

Ethel Belle (Fox) Gouty died at Lake View Hospital in Danville, Illinois, on January 25, 1971, at age 78 after spending approximately 6 years in a nursing home due to a stroke she suffered about 1964 that paralyzed one-half of her body.(
11) Both Ethel and Robert Gouty are buried in the Lower Mound Cemetery west of Covington, Indiana.
