Mary (or Mara) Koch was born in 1817, in Pomerania, Prussia, Germany.
(1) Her parents are not known.(2) Mary Koch married Phillip Stuebe in Germany.(3) Phillip Stuebe was born September 18, 1817, in Pomerania, Prussia, Germany.(4) His parents are not known.

Phillip and Mary (Koch) Stuebe and their children immigrated to the United States in 1856.
(5) Phillip and Mary Stuebe had six children, all of whom were born in Germany:

Hannah Stuebe was born in Germany in January 1838. She immigrated to the United States in 1856.(6) Hannah Stuebe married Gottfried Lorenz after she came to America. His parents are not known.

The 1900 census indicates Hannah was the mother of 9 children and that only 4 were alive at the time of the census.
(7) The five children of Gottfried and Hannah Lorenz that appear in census records are: Emma, Wilhelmina "Minnie" Fredericka, Louise or Louisa, Mary, and Fred Lorenz.(8) Truxton James Older, a grandson of Minnie Lorenz, stated to Curtis L. Older that Minnie's given name was Wilhelmina Fredericka Lorenz and that her parents were Gottfried Lorenz and Hannah Stuebe.

The date and location of death for Gottfried Lorenz is not known. Hannah (Stuebe) Lorenz died in 1908 and is
buried at Springhill Cemetery in Danville, Illinois.(9)

Frederick Christian Stuebe was born in Germany in 1841, He died in Danville, Illinois, in 1916. He married Frederica Pries on June 8, 1865.(10) She was born in Germany in 1847. She died in Danville, Illinois, in 1908. Civil War records list a STUEBE, Frederick, Recruit, Danville, Feb 27, 1864, Mustered out July 10, 1865, Company C, Company "C" 12th Illinois Infantry, (Three Year Service).(11) Cristina Fuchs was a niece of Frederica Pries Stuebe who was related to Wilhelmina Fredericka "Minnie" (Lorenz) Older. Cristina Fuchs married Julius Zillman and was a grandmother of John George Zillman who married Wilma Jane Older. Thus, John and Wilma Jane (Older) Zillman had similar relatives. Frederick Christian Stuebe was also related to the mother of John George Zillman, the husband of Wilma Jane Older.

Frederick and Frederica (Pries) Stuebe were the parents of ten children: Frank (1866-1933); Louis (1869-1962); George (1872-1942); Lydia Coit (1875-1964); William (1877-1944); Albert (1880-1946); Josephine Riener (1882-1957); Lina (1885-1906); Phil (1889- ); and Ernest (1894- ).

John Stuebe was born in Germany in 1841. He died in Danville, Illinois, in 1934. He married Caroline Kraft on December 18, 1880, in Vermilion County, Illinois.(12) She was born in 1861. She died in Danville, Illinois, in 1906. Civil War records list a STUBE, John Private, Danville, Sep 18, 1861, Disch, July 23, 1862; wounds, Company "K" 37th Illinois Infantry.(13) John and Caroline (Kraft) Stuebe had a son named Leonard who was born in 1881 and died in 1934.

Mary Stuebe was born in Germany in 1848. She died in Danville, Illinois, in 1937. She married Frederick Buy on August 28, 1867, in Vermilion County, Illinois.(14) He was born in Germany in 1844. He died in Danville, Illinois, in 1933. Civil War records list a BUY, Frederick, Private, Danville, Feb 6, 1865, MO Jan 27, 1866 as Corporal, Company "E" 149th Illinois Infantry.(15) Fred and Mary (Stuebe) Buy had eight children: Edward, born 1867; Carl, born 1874; Bill, born 1876; Harry, born 1879; Lulu; Mayme; Alice; and Jenny, born in 1871.(16)

Fredericka Stuebe was born in Germany in 1844. She married George J. Walz on April 23, 1864, in Vermilion County, Illinois.(17) He was born in 1830 and died in 1907 in Danville, Illinois. George J. and Fredericka (Stuebe) Walz had six children: George Jr.; Harry, born in 1865; Karl, born in 1867; Albert, born in 1871; Emma Renckin, born in 1875 and died in 1953; and Lena Woolsey, born in 1878.

Frederick Stuebe was born in Germany in 1846. He died in Oakwood, Illinois, in 1933. He married Mary Hageman on December 5, 1867, in Vermilion County, Illinois.(18) She was born in 1844. She died in Oakwood, Illinois, in 1927. Civil War records list a Frederick Stebe, 35th Illinois Infantry, Company D, Soldier's Rank_In - Pvt., Soldier's Rank_Out - Corpl.(19) Fred and Mary (Hageman) Stuebe had five children: John, Fred, Pete, Harry, and Oscar.

The Danville, Illinois Directory for 1889 lists a Phillip Stuebe of Danville, Illinois, with an occupation of laborer, Location 2: Alexander 2d e North Fork.

(23) It is evident the family was in America by no later than 1860.

The 1870 U. S. Census for Illinois, Vermilion County, Danville Township, lists Phillip Stube, age 53, male, white, farmer, real estate = $3,000, personal = $250, born in Prussia, parents of foreign birth, male citizen of U. S. of 21 years of age or older, and Mary Stube, age 53, female, white, keeping house, born in Prussia, parents of foreign birth.

Living nearby to Phillip and Mary Stuebe in 1870 are Frederick Buy, his wife, Mary (Stuebe) Buy, and their two year old son Edward Buy.
(25) Also living nearby is a son, Frederick (Christian) Stube, age 27, and his wife, Fredericka (Pries) Stube, age 24, and their two children, James and Louis.(26) Another son also lives very near to Phillip and Mary Stuebe in 1870. Fritz (Frederick) Stube, age 24, and his wife, Mary (Hageman) Stube, age 25, and their two children, John Stube, age 2, born in Illinois, and Fritz Stube, age 4 months, born in February 1870.(27)

The 1880 U. S. Census for Illinois, Vermilion County, Danville Township, identifies many members of the Phillip and Mary Stuebe family. In the margin of the census records, the street location of these families is noted as Bowman Avenue. This section of Danville was very likely the section known as Germantown. The Germantown fire station stood at the intersection of Bowman Avenue and Fairchild Street. The 1880 census lists Dwelling 329, Family 344, Phillip Stebe, age 67, railroad laborer, born in Prussia, parents born in Germany, Mary Stebe, age 63, wife, keeps house, born in Germany, parents born in Germany.
